  PAST Fire Museum Seminar
  28th Annual Fire Museum Seminar
  Tampa, FL • November 2 - 5, 2017

The 28th Annual Fire Museum Network (FMN) Seminar will be held in early November this year in downtown Tampa, Florida. The Tampa Firefighters Museum (TFM) will serve as our seminar host while the Le Meridien Tampa hotel will serve as our lodging headquarters. The museum and hotel are only 3 blocks apart – a 4 minute walk. An opening Reception & Networking Social will be held for all paid registrants Thursday afternoon at TFM at 4 PM.

Seminar sessions will begin Friday morning with TFM President Bill Wade and TFM Executive Director Nick Ligori teaming up to host a tour of their museum and to discuss leadership and management tips that have made their operations so successful. Representatives from Shriners Hospitals for Children (its world headquarters is in Tampa), will discuss the range of services provided at their numerous facilities, including their 5 burn centers across the country. They will also devote an entire session to an in-depth discussion of fundraising options for non-profits. An afternoon field trip to the renowned Tampa Bay Historical Center (TBHC), where state-of-the-art interactive exhibits thrill thousands of visitors annually, will conclude the formal educational programming for the day. A contract shuttle bus will provide transport for our participants to TBHC then to Tampa’s famous Ybor City nearby where food and drink options are extensive and networking possibilities endless.

On Saturday, FMN’s Annual Member Business Meeting will start the day’s program, followed by several educational presentations. Mid-afternoon, the group will take another field trip to the nearby Henry B. Plant Museum housed in the spectacular, Victorian-era former-hotel built by the railroad magnate for whom the museum is named. Our contract shuttle again will ferry attendees to Ybor City for a final evening on the town.

An OPTIONAL bus tour on Sunday is at an additional charge of $30 – and is limited to the first 25 paid registrants who sign up for it. It will be a morning tour of select Tampa Fire Dept. facilities including the airport station and fireboat station. It will leave from and return to Le Meridien where our shuttle bus will then make a Noon run to the airport for guests needing a ride there (guests who pay for the optional tour will have first priority for seating on the airport run; if extra seats are available, then other guests can come, too).

The Reception on Thursday and the lunches on Friday and Saturday are included in each registration price. Transportation via our private shuttle bus on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday afternoon and evenings is also included. The Le Meridien Hotel also offers a courtesy shuttle for hotel guests. It is available on-demand but on a first-come basis, so subject to being out and about when you want it. The hotel shuttle does NOT serve the airport, only downtown and Ybor City areas. Attendees arriving or departing out of Tampa’s airport (TPA) will find a taxi ride reasonably-priced but options are also available for lower-priced, shared-ride services. The

Blue One Transport Co. runs regular shuttle buses for $13 rides each way from TPA direct to downtown hotels.

Our host hotel Le Meridien Tampa is a wonderful facility housed in a block-long, repurposed Federal court house – truly a magnificent structure. For us, the best feature is it is only 3 blocks from the TFM. As such, the seminar programs Friday and Saturday will be held at the museum, not the hotel. Our special hotel room rate is $155 plus tax nightly, single or double occupancy. For those of you with Marriott or with Starwood frequent guest status, our hotel participates in both plans; so don’t forget to provide your number.

A limited number of rooms are blocked, so make your hotel reservation TODAY. Your room can be cancelled without penalty up to 48 hours before scheduled arrival. A small number of two-bed rooms exist in the hotel. So, if you need a second bed and only King rooms are available, specify that you need a rollaway.

A note about driving in or renting a car: Le Meridien charges $25 per night to park your car. It is valet parking only as they have no self-park garage. Contract garages are nearby but most do not permit overnight parking. Limited, metered on-street parking is available around the hotel, too, but cars have to be moved by 7 AM daily or money fed to the meter.

Please note on the registration form below that Non-FMN-member registration fees are $30 higher than member fees because we want you as a member. Thus, a complimentary FMN membership for a year becomes yours just for attending the seminar. Additional attendees from the same organization receive a discounted seminar registration rate, too; so bring all of your co-workers and Board members.

A note about breakfast: the hotel has a great restaurant on the 2nd floor that serves three meals every day including breakfast starting at 6 AM. A standard egg & bacon breakfast runs about $10 with coffee extra. There are a couple of sandwich shops close to the hotel, too, which offer great, quick breakfasts for about half that, and they also open around 6.

The hotel will be providing a room for us Friday and Saturday evenings right off the lobby entrance with tables and chairs for private conversations and networking. There is a small bar right off that room, too. So, if you want to take your networking from Ybor back to the hotel early, you will have a private place (and adjacent watering hole) to do just that.
